Hello & Happy Monday!!

When there are so many sales going on?! Which products do you buy?!

Everything on EDS is typically food focused, but long before my foodie days I conducted hundred of product reviews to offer insight to product quality and cleaner options. There are many new products from companies based in the UK, Canada and even those made locally that I’d love to share for the Cyber Monday Sales!

From skincare to diffusers, apparel, pillow cases, and even food aversion tests, below are my top picks!

REVEAL, ENHANCE & PROTECT

At the heart of the MZ Skin collection is Dr Maryam’s three step, anti-ageing skincare philosophy of Reveal, Enhance and Protect. This daily skincare method contains all the principles and products that you need to address the key causes of ageing.
Dr Maryam has used her medical expertise and partnership with the UK’s leading formulator to carefully balance proven anti-ageing ingredients and cutting-edge scientific techniques to ensure MZ Skin contains everything you need for a glowing, age-defying, youthful complexion.

Review:

I’ll be honest, for years I’ve been using products that are comprised of a handful of ingredients that have the ability to cleanse and moisture the skin. However, as we age it becomes more of an obstacle to repair the skin and create that healthy glow we all love. As a clinical nutritionist I find that the glow can be attribute to diet and exercise, but also good skincare! Over the past year I’ve felt my skin lose it’s vibrancy so I ventured outside of my normal skincare regime and opted to explore the MZ Skincare line. After testing countless beauty products on Eat Drink Shrink I can confidently say that the skincare options outside the United States always exceed my expectations.

Perhaps it stems from the fact that regulations for skincare/cosmetics are more stringent. Needless to say I was elated to try MZ skincare! I love the packaging, the scent, the fact that it’s curated by and MD, and the innovative ingredients. For many the idea of “placenta” being in something you apply to the face may be very off-putting. However, it’s become commonplace for women to consume the placenta in capsules post birth, so I was intrigued. While these products should be paired with a face lotion to keep the hydration, the serums together work seamlessly together to create flawless skin.

My face did a complete 180 in just a few days and I can’t imagine my routine without them. The eye cream is nice, has a wonderful scent, but would utilize it more for the day as I gravitate more towards balms for night. The price point is expensive, but the quantity is generous and a little bit goes a long way!

Review: I’m not sure how I stumbled across Rosie Jane, but once I did I was instantly sold. The packing is clean and sleek, the scents are essential oil based and the products cruelty free. While they currently only offer 3 different scent options that are paired with a matching candle and a roll on option, I opted for whichever scent was their personal favorite and I received the James. It’s hard to describe the James scent, but it’s light and deep all at the same time. I envision it being ideal for any time of the year and it’s somewhat reminiscent of the original Marc Jacobs perfume only because of the notes of gardenia. Though an older scent the aroma is timeless and one of my personal favorites.

As I’ve gotten older, I rarely wear perfume. I find them to be overpowering and give me a headache the majority of the time even when natural. However, James is light and I love the idea of having a lotion option as I always feel its less overpowering in that form and lasts longer than a spritz! If you love niche perfumes that are game changers, you need to explore Rosie Jane!

Food intolerance can occur when your body cannot properly digest and convert the foods you eat into the necessary nutrients that fuel your system. This maldigestion causes inflammation, which can lead to many negative food intolerance related symptoms including fatigue, migraine & headaches, eczema, bloating, gas, congestion, weight gain, brain fog, joint aches, acid reflux, food cravings, diarrhea, skin rash and more.

If you experience any of the symptoms above and cannot explain why, it’s a possibility that you’re suffering from an unidentified food intolerance. The best way to identify these food intolerances is by taking a Pinnertest—a next generation blood test that can determine a client’s individual food intolerances.

Although Pinnertest is not meant to act as a diagnostic tool, it can serve as wellness advice to alleviate negative food intolerance related symptoms.  While we do not prescribe any specific dietary plans after testing, eliminating the problem foods from your diet and replacing them with nutrient-dense alternatives is highly recommended.

Review: With all the talk of gluten allergies, there are actually many foods that we may have aversions to that our body doesn’t provide an immediate response to. While common allergies are protein based such as dairy, eggs, nuts, and seeds, there are many foods we consume which we don’t have the proper enzymes to break down. This can cause inflammation in the body that could manifest itself in stomach issues, skin problems, headaches, and a myriad of other symptoms. The doctors office will conduct testing for the main food allergies, but drawing blood to test for countless other foods I’m not sure. The process is seamless where you receive the kit, draw a few drops of blood, and sent out the package that comes with a shipping label.

You’ll receive your results in 2 weeks via email and it will encompass a wide variety of foods. The ranking for severity is 1-3 and my husband and I each had about 3 different food aversions. Mine is egg yolks while his is egg whites, and I also had garlic, pinto beans, and Kamut. My husband had barley, which removes beer from the diet, and peanut butter. The kit is pricey, but the information is priceless when wanting to achieve wellness in the diet in every capacity. I highly recommend checking out the Pinnertest!

In 2003, 20th Century Fox Films State Manager Fiona Stewart was prescribed acne medication which resulted in extremely sensitive skin and thinning hair. Her dermatologist suggested sleeping on a silk pillowcase. Unable to find one, she sourced the best silk she could find and wrapped it around her pillow. The results were dramatic and immediate. Her friends wanted them, then local shops wanted to stock them.

Fiona and her husband both started their careers in advertising and decided to launch Slip, the world’s first silk pillowcase offered as a beauty product. Within a year of launch, Slip was in hundreds of stores across Australia and has since become a household name in Australia.

Slip launched in the US in October 2015 and by Christmas, major retailers across the country including Nordstrom, Sephora, Saks, Cos Bar, Lord & Taylor and NET-A-PORTER were reordering to keep up with demand.

Review: Like the majority of us, I’ve always used cotton pillows. Whether they were uber soft, they were always cotton based. While I sleep on top of my hands out of habit, thus minimizing my face touching the pillow and or wrinkling my face, cotton tends to absorb our facial oils more and even effects your hair. I never thought I would see a significant difference in using a silk pillow case, but it just works wonders and enhances my sleep. It comes in a perfected portable case and is just a pure game changer! If you’re looking to improve your sleep or mitigate hair or skin problems I highly recommend them!

Review: I had heard of this company years ago and it was one of the few that I had yet to explore. For whatever reason, the marketing, packaging, and their approach to natural skincare instantly drew me in. I opted to try the classic Phoenix Facial Oil and the Moon Fruit face cream. The oil is nourishing and has a slight orange hue, but the aroma is very neutral making it suitable for men or women. The face cream was my personal favorite! First off the packaging is unique, the color a beautiful shade of blue, the hydration level, amazing and a little bit goes a long way! Highly recommend this company!

The Story:

Ellis Brooklyn was created by Bee Shapiro, a chic Williamsburg mom who happens to be the beauty columnist for The New York Times. The fragrance and bodycare line features sophisticated, multilayered scents whose trademarks are freshness and modernity. Phthalates-free, paraben-free, cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and utterly luxurious

Review: While I love companies based outside the U.S., I also love anything local and niche. This line is made in the heart of Brooklyn and encompasses lotions and candles. From the packaging to the gorgeous aromas of the lotion and perfume, I was completely enamored with this company. I typically love a good scented lotion versus perfume as it provides hydration and makes scents less overwhelming and actually last longer than a spritz! I loved this Body Milk as the scent was deep and alluring that I would consider the aroma timeless. To better gauge the diversity in the line I also sampled the fragrance sample set. The set comes with each scent, offers a generous portion, and pairs with the candles making it the perfect gift idea if you truly fall in love with one in particular. However, I think you’re going to fall in love with them all like I did.

Created by British make-up artist Arabella Preston, Votary’s luxurious products harness the natural power of plant oils and active ingredients.

“I am passionate about the skin-transforming power of natural oils – that means oils that are derived from plants – whether it’s a vegetable, fruit, seed or flower. Natural plant oils are packed full of nature’s super-ingredients such as Omega-3 fatty acids and are rich in anti-inflammatory and anti-ageing nutrients such as Alpha Linoleic and Ellagic Acid. Votary’s natural plant oils absorb and penetrate, nourishing and hydrating your skin. They won’t sit on the surface of your skin in the way creams or man-made mineral oils do. Because Votary products absorb into the skin so beautifully they make a fantastic base for make-up. I always prep the skin of my high-profile clients with Votary facial oils “

Review: Votary skincare caught my eye recently for many reasons. They are based outside the U.S., the packaging is gorgeous in the beautiful green bottles, and even the font drew me in. The marketing was so on point that I had to get my hands of some of their creations. I tested the Superseed Cleansing OilSuperseed Facial Oil and the Lavender Pillow Spray. The cleansing oil is everything you imagine, it cleanses, but also nourishes the skin. However, if you’re wearing makeup, I highly recommend cleansing with a wipe or toner first as cleansing oils don’t typically remove every remnant of makeup. The facial oil is wonderful with no overwhelming smells and provides supreme hydration. However when using oils, I have to lock in the moisture with a night cream or I’ll feel dry shortly after. They are currently producing a skin cream, so stay tuned! The pillow spray was my personal favorite, simply because I was blown away by the scent. They hit the mark so well with creating an aroma that isn’t overpowering with lavender. The scent is so good, I’d wear it as a natural perfume lol. I highly recommend this company as their products are fab!

Review: How much do I love this company? Let me count the ways lol. Not only was the inception of the company in the NYC, but each product always blows me away. I first discovered this company while staying at the Delano Miami ages ago back in 2007. They offer everything from lotions to soaps, candles and now even skincare. With so much to try, I opted for the classics such as the EuclyptusBergamont, and Rosemary body wash. The ingredients are minimal and the scents are so alluring. If you need one more reason to stay in and take a hot bath in the middle of winter, you need Malin + Goetz! Other products I explore were the highly coveted candles. I’m a candle enthusiasts and always have a collection on hand.

I let the company hand select their favorites to try and I was simply blown away. The Cannabis I believe is one of their number one selling scents, and I can see why. A fresh captivating scent that’s perfect for any season, and actually doesn’t smell like cannabis lol. The other scent Otto is a clean fresh scent that is reminiscent of spring. The perf candle for those cold winter months! My sister is a huge fan as well and mentioned the Rum products as being the scent she gravitated towards most. Hopefully I’ll get to give you the scoop on that one. As a whole, I love this company through and through and know you will too!

Review: I had heard of this skincare company for years now, but again it was one of the few I had yet to try. This Canada based company offers everything from skincare to body care, diffusers and more! I recently got into diffusers as I had this antiquated view of them. Growing up my mother always had an essential oil aromatherapy machine in her room. As soothing as it sounds today, the scents were always strong and off-putting. My mother operated a holistic health store so we all smelled these oils for years.

Today they are referred to as “diffusers” and I’m completely obsessed with them. The little divice is modern looking in appearance, needs an outlet, some water, and oil and boom, you have the most relaxing scent to compliment your day. I find that the oils help me sleep and there is no loud noise like typically machines enabling you to effortless dose off. I love that the Oil kit has an array of oil blends as I typically find the non blend oils to be overwhelming. I can’t say enough about Saje Wellness and I’ve only tried the diffuser! Stay tuned to hear more about their skincare line!

Review: Since the inception of this company years ago, I’ve been in love with the Indie Lee. Whether it’s the packaging, marketing, simplicity in the ingredients, or the fact that they keep their line limited to feature only a handful of products, I was instantly sold. I love their body oils as the blends are gorgeous and they last forever. The body scrub is thick, course, exfoliates, but intensely hydrates and it too will last a while. If you’re looking for niche body products or even skincare, I highly recommend Indie Lee!

Review: As a clinical nutritionist and vegan dating as far back as 2003, I’ve tried countless powders and mixes. I’m not a huge vegan powder person today, simply because the majority have stevia or some off-putting sweetener in the product that leaves a lingering aftertaste. I’m not sure why companies do that, but I was elated to find out that this product doesn’t! There is not weird sweetener taste, but rather a lingering flavor profile that I can’t describe. Perhaps its a slight berry undertone, but in any case I’m obsessed with the Super Elixir. This product is produced in Australia, is gorgeous down to the packaging it comes in, the container is reusable as you can purchase refills, and the flavor is unlike any other powder I’ve tried. If you get the chance to try this product, I highly recommend it!

Review: Out of the countless products I tested before my culinary days, Rahua was one of the few that I didn’t get to try. As someone who finds it painful to wash their hair, it was low on the bucket list for me. However, this was something always intriguing about this line whether it be the packaging or the marketing. I finally got my hands on their newly released color protecting line. If you’re well versed in natural shampoos, you know that they are sulfate free thus preserving the hair more, but they don’t offer color protecting properties. That being said, it’s what I selected!

After testing a handful of natural shampoos, I have to say that I was never really blown away. As someone with fine hair, they are natural, but so heavy that they way down the hair, negating the purpose of washing your hair. However, Rahua not only has a gorgeous smell of I believe gardenia, offers an abundant lather, and didn’t weigh down my hair nor dry it out either. I was greatly impressed and am hoping to explore their other products. If you’re waiting for the sign to finally try their products, this is it!

Review: I’ve been wearing PLW for countless years and helped me make it through NYU in the winter months as the clothes just feel like butter to the skin. Not only are they comfy, cute, inspiring, but there are so many small details in every design. From sweatshirts to pants, and even more fashion forward pieces, I love this company through and through and have a myriad of their designs. The pricing can be on the higher side, but they have tons of sales on a regular basis.
