Hello & Happy Monday!!

I’m utilizing every second with this beautiful fall weather to get outdoors or plan a getaway where our dog Burt can join us! For many the process of taking your pup on road trips sounds involved, but with countless dog friendly options today and a handful of essential dog items, you’ll be good to go and wishing you had started planning trips sooner! Prior to having Burt I loved to simply jump on a plane and head to a destination. However, today I actually find more pleasure in the process of driving as I love to visually see the different areas and the trip experience is always more enjoyable for Burt. That being said, there are countless dog friendly trip options and essential dog travel items that are game changers!

Below are my fave trip options to bring your pup along!

Camping: Whether you love or hate camping it’s a completely different experience with your pup as they love it from beginning to end! You can go hiking, fishing, and experience countless other activities depending on where you are. It’s an excuse to get outdoors and your dog will love you for it.

Bed and breakfast: I know what you’re thinking, a bed and breakfast is a romantic place, why bring a dog? As much as they can be a romantic option, they are a wonderful place to get out of your normal routine, and enjoy the area outside. The majority are typically not pet friendly, but there are of course a few that are!

Botanical Gardens: Many of these allow dogs in the gardens and it’s an excuse to enjoy the outdoors, socialize, and meet other pups.

Boating: If there is a body of water near you, chances are you can take a boat ride and bring your pup along with you. Enjoy the weather, have a cocktail, and get to see your pup in life vest that’s worth the experience in itself.

Best Trip Supplies:

Dog Food: For the perfect trip, you need the perfect dog food, and for us, that’s Nature’s Recipe!

Growing up, we always gave our dogs whatever food was on sale. Back then there was a handful of companies and grain free was never even discussed. Over the years the dog food industry has evolve to offer countless options that have less fillers and preservatives and include ingredients you can pronounce.

Since Burt came into our lives, I’ve become well versed in dog products. To date we’ve explored upwards of 5 different dog foods to finally arrive at the one that works. Burt is a French Bulldog, aka, he can’t hand handle everyday dog foods and always has to eat grain free. French bulldog’s typically experience a lot of gas, stomach, and even skin problems all from a poor quality dog food.

Today we always stick to dog food that is grain free! Needless to say, I was elated to try Nature’s Recipe brand dog food that comes in an resealable bag making ideal for travel! Nature’s Recipe is made with high quality ingredients, includes added vitamins and minerals, includes no poultry by-product meal, and comes in grain free options! Collapsible Water Bowl: Typical water bowls are bulky, take up space, and spill! Get a collapsible one of travel to make hydration not a big mess.

Bottled Water: Water sourced from different places may not be of the same quality. in other places and potentially make your dog ill. Be sure to have bottled water on hand while traveling to keep your dog hydrated!

Blankets: I know it’s simple, but dogs don’t enjoy just laying on the seat of a car or even in your lap without a little cushion.

Pee Pads: No matter how old your pup is, accidents happen. Bring pads!

Dog shampoo: You never know what mess your pup will get into, bring shampoo!

Toys: Stuffed animals are great for the car, balls, frisbees and anything that gets them moving is perfect too. I love toys that are waterproof when doing things outdoors!

Dog zip line: For those who can’t let their pups roam free while camping, a zip line is ideal to enable the dog  to enjoy himself and keep

Homemade treats: Homemade treats are so easy to make, cost efficient and can easily be made in bulk! If you have trepidation about making your own, try my easy peasy recipe below!
