Hello & Happy Wednesday!!

When it comes to a routine, I always have one for just about everything. If I find one that works, it does the job, I’ll do it till the end of time.

Needless to say, you’ll always find avocado, sprouts, and some vegan yogurt in my fridge.

Whenever I hear the word “yogurt”, the late 90’s early 2000’s instantly come to mind as I find it to be the dawn of the yogurt era. Everyone was reaching for dairy. The low fat, low sugar, the light and fit, fruit at the bottom, you name it, and enjoying these products that had never ending ingredient lists.

Vegan yogurts have truly flourished in recent years where now you can find an array of accessible options with shorter and cleaner ingredient lists and the quality is even better than even the traditional dairy varieties. As of 2018, I’ve just about tried them all, but the Silk brand products have stood the test of time.

A study published in the Journal of Food Biochemistry looked at how different kinds of yogurt helped control diabetes. They found that soy yogurt was particularly effective at blocking enzymes that impact carbohydrate digestion, which results in a slower, steadier rise in blood sugar after a meal. And a recent animal study found that rats fed soy yogurt had healthier livers and lower cholesterol levels. Another study found that soy yogurt could reduce your risk of cardiovascular disease by lowering your LDL Cholesterol.

In addition to their plethora of products, Silk offers upwards of 8 different flavor varieties in both soy and almondmilk if that’s your preference. Each flavor also boasts a natural dose of plant protein of roughly 5 to 6 grams. and with the almondmilk varieties 11 to 13 grams of healthy fats.

What I love about yogurts is that for myself I personally find them nostalgic! I’m also all about texture with foods and it’s a great medium to throw in other superfoods to elevate the nutrients. I always utilize toppings such as chia seeds, hemp seeds, cacao nibs, nuts, or a lil fresh fruit. What’s also fab about yogurt is that you can enjoy it on its own, throw it into a shake for some added flavor, protein and body, or even make some dairy free fruit popsicles with them.
