Hello & Happy Monday!!

I wanted to share a company that I recently had the previlidge of working with.. Antonym Cosmetics!

Out of all the green beauty products I began to explore starting back in 2012, cosmetics were the last on my list as I typically keep it rather light when it comes to makeup and feel its most imperative to be using natural skincare above all, but at the end of the day..

Its ALL important.

I’ve come to realize though, although there are millions of boutique natural skincare lines, there isn’t a myriad of natural cosmetics available today even in 2015.

I’ve worked with 100% Pure, Haut Cosmetics, Zuii Organic, Supergoop, Mineral Fusion, Juice Beauty, RMS Beauty, and Gabriel Cosmetics. (I could be missing others, my apologies!), but when I saw images of the Antonym Cosmetics products …I was immediately enamored by the creativity and afterwards the quality of  their products!!

If you love innovative cosmemtics that don’t offer run of the mil colors and actually make makeup time fun.. (I typically don’t enjoy it)

You will love Antonym Cosmetics!!

My only complaints: Product ingredients are not listed online, but on packaging.

we set out to create products that perform exceptionally well yet are gentle on the skin, the environment and cruelty free…

it’s a philosophy we call gentle face fashion…
The primary function of makeup is color so we set out to create a line of high quality make that perform just like premium makeup should, with the added benefit of having ingredients that are gentle on the skin. We also evaluated the packaging and chose bamboo as a natural and sustainable material which we use for our compacts as well as our brush handles. And that’s why we called it Antonym. We don’t like sameness. We wanted to create a line and company that is different at its core.

Why certified?
As the demand for products made without chemicals and without animal testing has grown exponentially in the last few years the choices for truly natural and organic cosmetics have remained limited. Our certifications provide buyers the assurance that all Antonym Cosmetics products are made with natural and/or organic ingredients and that they have not been tested on animals. Our makeup is certified by Ecocert and our brushes are Vegan.

Company response to Talc as an ingredient in some of their powders

Yeah, talc comes up occasionally, as people have heard bad things about it. But during our product development, we studied domestic and international findings, research and independent health studies and the conclusion was that talc we use (pure and high quality) is deemed completely safe for human consumption according to FDA, WHO, IARC as the type of talc we use has not been linked to any health issues.

1397441_1397439_1397442_1397445_group_a

Moreover all Antonym ingredients are certified by Ecocert, a very stringent European certification body that makes sure that all ingredients are absolutely safe for topical use. When we brought it up with Ecocert, we received the same comment…safe. And these guys don’t joke around. they audit everything we do from storage to packaging to cleaning products used on the manufacturing equipment. They said they often don’t approve ingredients even if there’s a doubt because they’d rather be safe than sorry.

And if it were deemed safe in a single country, one could suspect lobbying or other such activity. But study after study from the US and Canada, UK, France, Germany, Australia, etc…most developed countries, and most with stringent consumer protection agencies, deem it safe. Well after all that, our conclusion was that it is safe.

And, frankly, we have no interest in talc per se!!

From the FDA:

Talc is a naturally occurring mineral, mined from the earth. Talc has many uses in many products; in food, such as rice and chewing gum; and in the manufacture of tablets. Published scientific literature going back to the 1960s has suggested a possible association between the use of powders containing talc and the incidence of ovarian cancer based on talc containing asbestos.

Asbestos is also a naturally occurring mineral, which, unlike talc, however, is a known carcinogen. For this reason, since the 1970s the FDA considers it unacceptable for cosmetic talc to be contaminated with asbestos. And this is probably why talc received a bad rep. Talc used in products, must be asbestos free since then.

Here are two helpful links:

http://www.cancer.org/cancer/cancercauses/othercarcinogens/athome/talcum-powder-and-cancer

http://www.cancerwa.asn.au/resources/cancermyths/talcum-powder-myth/

This is why we concluded that based on FDA, Ecocert, IARC, WHO and other domestic and International findings, high quality talc (asbestos free of course!) is completely safe for use in consumer products (and we use Antonym products on ourselves!). But of course we encourage everyone to research this topic and decide for themselves.

An innovative baking process transforms the blush crème into a finely textured powder. The crème is baked in terracotta pans in a process that naturally binds it into its domed shape. Swirls of color are added to each individual blush before baking, giving every blush its own unique color imprint.

The baked powder, which retains some of its thick crème properties, feels weightless, ultra smooth and silky when applied to the skin. The combination of transparency and color finish result in colors that are flattering to all skin types.
