I am currently in the Nutrition and Food Studies program at NYU Steinhart working towards receiving my BS in Nutrition and Dietetics. I am close to finishing up my degree with hopes of moving on to receive my license and becoming a Registered Dietician. I currently help out with research in the department and work with a food record analysis database called NDSR.

What type of foods do you like and what is your favorite thing to make?
I like different kinds of pastas, foods with cheese, anything with shrimp, foods that incorporate cinnamon, and ethnic foods/foods of different cultures, especially Korean and Ethiopian. I also love cherry tomatoes, grapefruits, and berries, including strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspberries (strawberries being my favorite). In addition, I like sweet, savory, and spicy foods.

One of my favorite recipes to make is actually a tuna salad sandwich. It tastes good, it’s simple, it’s easy and quick to make, and you can play around with some of the ingredients to make it your own and more nutritious if you would like! Personally, I prefer my tuna salad to be a bit chunkier. In my recipe I use: canned tuna (in water, no salt added – and I add a little bit of olive oil myself), celery, cherry tomato, sweet onion, mayo, freshly squeezed lemon juice, and a little to a moderate amount of pickled jalapeño pepper slices (just to give it a little kick). Then after chopping and mixing, I place it all on a bed of lettuce between two sandwich slices and then it’s done!

 

What are your favorite restaurants? 

 

Some of my favorite restaurants include Ellary’s Greens, Barraca, Boka, and Bunna Cafe.

I am a freshman studying food, Spanish, and linguistics at NYU. I have been working with food – be it professional baking, photography or writing – for over 3 years and am also a bartender. I currently write and take pictures for Spoon University NYU and The Brunch Boys food blog. I also love molecular gastronomy and enjoy experimenting in my little dorm kitchen.

What type of foods do you like and what is your favorite thing to make?

 

While I am not a picky eater, I think it is important for me to eat good, wholesome food made with quality ingredients. I eat out a lot and like getting food that is spicy and has different flavors and textures – a lot of meat and seafood, pasta and rice. That being said, I also have a huge sweet tooth and always eat dessert after. I love Latin American, Italian and Japanese inspired foods.

I make a lot of different kinds of food but my go-to dish for any meal or even a quick snack is a Masala Omelette. I’ve made it the same way since I was 8 – with 2 eggs, sautéed onions and green chilies, tomato, fresh cilantro, and a dash of milk. I whisk the eggs with salt and pepper, add everything else and mix until combined before frying it with a teaspoon of olive oil in a non-stick pan on medium heat. It’s supposed to be flipped over once, cooked until it’s set inside and golden brown outside, and served on its own or between any soft bread.

 
What are your favorite restaurants?
I am spoilt for choice in New York City but I particularly love The NoMad Bar, Toloache, Boka, Zuma, Yerba Buena, and Oficina 1000Miglia.
