Hello & Happy Thursday!!

I had the opportunity to sample a few Beautycounter products recently and was elated to explore their line as they are non toxic, cruelty free, and now becoming more and more accessible through their distributors and are now available at Targets nationwide. Find out more about the company, my friend Melissa, and the products I tested below!

What’s important to note is that although these products are not all 100% all vegan and perhaps the ingredient lists are longer than some niche brands on the market, as a whole this company is changing the landscape of accessible, affordable, non toxic products! Not only are they widely distributed by sales reps, but they are officially available at Target’s nationwide as of this month. Detoxifying your beauty routine has never been so easy!

Other things to note:

  • Beautycounter is very stringent with their approved ingredients and specifically don’t use roughly 1,500 ingredients in their products. View their selection process here
  • Over 80% of our products are natural or plant derived.
  • Beautycounter doesn’t use GMO’ and only sustainable sources, they batch test for heavy metal contamination (which is unheard of and not required) for our makeup, ask for certificates of purity. Source almost all of our materials in the US. They also share EVERY ingredient they use, are 100% transparent, and are EWG verified which speaks volumes.

Our Founder

Like many of you, I’m a wife and mom—and, like many of you, I didn’t know what I didn’t know. As I applied sunscreen, lotion, and any number of beauty products on myself and my kids, I never thought for a second they might not be safe: After all, I thought, we live in a country that regulates everything. So imagine my surprise when I learned that when it comes to the personal care industry, that’s simply not the case. Companies are allowed to use harmful ingredients and make their own judgments about safety.

And so I started Beautycounter, a company devoted to progress. Here you’ll find a wealth of empowering information about ways we can all make the world healthier, along with safer products you can trust. Because we all deserve better. Our vision is bold; real answers are never timid. Help us put truth back in beauty.

Are Your Products Vegan?

Most of our products do not contain ingredients sourced from animals such as musks, oils, and egg- and milk-derived ingredients. There are a few exceptions, which are listed below—lanolin, carmine a beeswax. Our Peppermint Balm Lip Conditioner and Calendula Balm Lip Conditioner contain lanolin, a natural wax derived from sheep’s wool. Lanolin is boiled out of wool that has already been sheared, and no sheep are harmed in the production of lanolin. We use high quality lanolin from sheep in Australia and New Zealand. It has been filtered and contains no unsafe biological material.

We use carmine as a red colorant in some of our color products. Carmine is a rich, natural pigment that comes from crushed beetle shells. It has been used for hundreds of years, and is safer than some synthetic reds. We also use beeswax in some of our products, and hope to establish relationships with US beekeepers dedicated to keeping bee populations healthy. As always, we will disclose all ingredients on our website and on our packaging. Vegans, people with allergies, or customers with other preferences/concerns can choose to avoid certain products with ingredients that are not right for them.

What really drives me is a desire to inspire women to live an abundant life in all areas. I believe that we all have the ability to design the life of our dreams and should stop at nothing to achieve that. Growth is never ending and my priority is to continuously take myself on & live outside my comfort zone so I can guide others to do the same.

I have over 11 years experience in B2B sales and recently left a very successful career as a medical device representative to pursue my life dreams. There was a fire inside of me that knew I was meant to make a huge difference and do something much bigger with my life.

This started with a 2 month honeymoon around South America and, upon return, turned into a full time commitment to being an entrepreneur sharing the mission and products of Beautycounter. This allows me to make massive social impact while having complete freedom of time and earning a living! Truly a dream.

I also volunteer my time as a life coach for the Self Expression and Leadership Program at Landmark Worldwide and recently created and lead an impactful women’s workshop called “Create Your Ripple”. I embrace the Colorado lifestyle to the fullest and constantly seek adventure. I hold a B.S. in finance from University of Tampa where I played 4 years of collegiate softball as a pitcher.

Review

While this product isn’t vegan due to the beeswax and the ingredient list is longer than I desire, I was interested in trying their classic SPF as its a staple in my everyday beauty routine. In regards to the hydration factor I found it to be somewhat more hydrating than the typical SPF products I use. When a product is too hydrating and you apply a tinted BB cream it can feel perhaps too heavy. However I loved how saturating it was and would say that this SPF is perhaps better when used by itself. When applied I feel as though I’m really getting full coverage and protecting my skin. The product does leave a slight whitish tint to the skin when applied, which is standard for most SPF’s, but once again another reason why it may be more ideal to wear this product by itself for those sans makeup days.

Review:

I personally wear makeup minimally, but when I do I prefer something with SPF, that has light to medium coverage, but feels light as a feather. I’ve been trying to venture out to explore other BB creams as the one I’ve been codependent on isn’t as clean as I’d like it to be. So I absolutely jumped at the chance to explore Beautycounter’s Tinter Moisturizer! At first glance I thought the color was way too dark, but once applied it blended and matched perfectly. However, I would say that the coverage is on the lighter side, and altogether a little lighter than I prefer. The product doesn’t feel heavy, but for those who are looking to cover blemishes you may seek out another option. In regards to the ingredients I would say that the list is a little longer than I prefer (most natural foundation products are about this length), but it doesn’t contain anything alarming that would deter me from purchasing the product. While the product doesn’t contain beeswax making it not vegan, I found it to be moisturizing, and offers a light coverage for those days when that’s all you need!

Notes: Tint skin provides fuller coverage than the Dew Skin above and consumers typically layer the two. Click here for more info on the Tint Skin Foundation

Review:

I truly love a good charcoal mask! That being said, I was excited to try this product as its also a staple within a woman’s beauty routine. What I like about this product is it effortlessly mitigates blemishes, doesn’t dry out the skin, and a little bit goes a long way. This product is also vegan! If you need a go to clay mask, this is a great option!

Review:

Another favorite of mine is charcoal soap! When I first broke into the world of non toxic beauty I had the chance to try one and was just hooked! You get a generous lather, doesn’t remove the skins natural oils, and it actually removes dirt and makeup! Lastly, they have minimal ingredients and will absolutely outlive other types of cleansers. The only suggestions I would make to perfect this product would be to remove alcohol as an ingredient as it can dry the skin and I don’t forsee it being essential as a soap ingredient.

Review: I don’t know about you, but I love a good mascara! Since I don’t wear mascara on the regular my tubes typically last a lot longer than others (if I can remember to close them tightly to prevent product oxidation of course lol) Needless to say I was excited to explore Beautycounter mascara as for the most part mascaras can be the same quality (all pretty good), but there are some natural mascaras that can be poor quality in the sense that the shelf life is shorter perhaps because of no parabens and it mostly rubs off on the skin. I found this mascara to be 1`00% amazing! I’ve truthfully never experiences such lengthening and no clumping. Just gorgeous long flowy lashes! My only tiny complaint would be that I did see it slightly rub off on my upper lid. That being said, I would overall give the product two thumbs up and will continue to use it and update this review if the color rubbing off becomes constant.

Tips: It was brought my attention that when your lashes are longer the product can rub off on the upper eyelid due to the skins natural oils. You can apply a mattifying powder to your eyes to absorb the oils before applying the mascara to reduce the potential black marks from the mascara.
