From popcorn to granola and even flavorful bars…

Enjoy.  Eat less.  Chew your food.

I didn’t start out wanting to make healthy foods, but I have always liked them, and wondered why there weren’t more available that tasted good.  After learning that many companies disguise their foods to make them appear healthy, it fueled the fire that now drives Cocomo Joe to be the absolute best in the organic foods industry.

I was selling real estate in Venice California for several years and reached a point where I was burnt out and had started searching for something meaningful.  At the hands of fate, through loss of loved ones, loss of money, and a severe motorcycle accident at the racetrack, all within a few weeks, I was at a point where I desperately needed to change everything about my life.  Searching for any sign, I remembered a TV show I saw about a couple guys who started a Granola company in their apartment.  I thought ‘how ridiculous’ but I had nothing else, so I decided to try and make some myself.

After having people try the first batch and smile, I felt a spark of a purpose, giving people something good for them that made them smile.  I never thought something so simple would make me feel so worthwhile.  And for that reason, everything made at Cocomo Joe is made with the highest level of integrity, and we never sacrifice quality and healthfulness for taste.  If we can’t make it good for you and delicious, we don’t make it.

Our Mission, Our Philosophy, Our Vision

Our Mission. At Cocomo Joe we make the best tasting and highest quality organic foods available. We want people to spend money on good food now so they don’t have to spend money on doctors later. Nothing fun ever happens in a doctor’s office.

Our Philosophy. We believe food is life. Treat your body right by eating good food, and eating it mindfully. Eat slow. Chew your food. Love yourself. Be yourself. Through sharing our philosophy, if we can help people feel better and be happier, we will all be better off.  That’s why on the back of some of our packages you will see…

How you feed yourself is as important as what you feed yourself.  Start with less than you want.  Take your time, chewing slowly and thoroughly.  Savor this food.   Savor this moment.  You will feel full while eating less.

Our Vision. We see a time when people get back to basics and recognize how important good health is, and work from the inside out to improve their surroundings. We see a time when great health, and the love of family and friends, along with having a purpose, are all priorities in our lives.

We Only Work With The Best Ingredients

Coffee contains antioxidants and caffeine, both of which have health and anti-aging benefits. Antioxidants help your body repair damage from free radicals. Caffeine has been shown to help improve symptoms of age related brain problems. Coffee has been shown to reduce the risks of heart disease, diabetes, dementia, colon cancer, cirrhosis, gallstones, parkinson’s disease, and provide relief from asthma, headaches, and provides cavity protection.

Figs are a good source of calcium, fiber, potassium, and antioxidants. They have anti-diabetic properties, lower triglycerides, and are a remedy for bronchitis and ulcers.

Mango has been shown to help with digestion, lower cholesterol, provide vitamin E, improve concentration and memory power, provide iron, help with acne, diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

Cranberries are loaded with antioxidants, and may prevent tumors from growing, or from starting in the first place. Cranberry juice may also increase levels of HDL and lower levels of LDL, the good and bad types of cholesterol.

Cocoa powder contains antioxidants that rival fruit for better health. Many studies have shown chocolate to be healthy for the cardiovascular system.

Coconut and Coconut oil have long been used for hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, increased immunity, proper digestion, heart disease, high blood pressure, use as an antifungal, to name only a few. The saturated fat has a high Lauric Acid content which makes it very healthy for the heart. Medium chain fatty acids are what make the saturated fat good for you.

Coconut nectar has a low glycemic index of 35, has a very low fructose content of about 10%, compared to a fructose content of 50% to 90% in agave nectar. Coconut nectar contains 17 amino acids as well.

Coconut sugar has all the same benefits as coconut nectar, since it is essentially coconut nectar air dried to crystal form.  It is a rich source of potassium, magnesium, zinc and iron.  It contains vitamins B1,B2,B3 and B6. Compared to brown sugar, coconut sugar has twice the iron, four times the magnesium, and 10 times the zinc.

Almonds have been found to lower risk of heart disease, are rich in vitamins and minerals, and vitamin E. They are also a good source of calcium, fiber, and folic acid.

Rolled oats are great source of magnesium, selenium, manganese and phosphorous, as well as vitamin B1, fiber and protein.

Brown rice lowers the risk of developing diabetes, high in fiber, good source of manganese and selenium, and lowers cholesterol.

Brown rice syrup is made from fermented brown rice, the brown rice syrup we use has a dextrose equivalent of 42, which makes it less sweet, allowing other flavors to come through in our granolas. Brown rice syrup is rich in rice protein, and is a good source of potassium, magnesium, and iron.

Chia seed is rich in calcium, protein, and boron.  Helps with hydration, soaks up ten times its weight in water. Easily digestible energy enhancer. Chia is a better source of omega 3 than flax seed. Chia seeds are known as the ‘indian running food’. Ancient Aztec warriors used chia seed during their conquests, at times taking no other food source with them.

Apples provide bone protection, asthma relief, aid in alzheimer’s prevention, lung cancer prevention, colon and liver cancer prevention, and breast cancer prevention. They lower cholesterol, and aid in diabetes management.

Ginger root has been used to treat or prevent ovarian cancer, colon cancer, morning sickness, motion sickness, heartburn, migraines, and menstrual cramps, as well as cold and flu, and a pain and inflammation reducer.

Popcorn is now being shown to have a very high antioxidant content, as much as twice the content as fruit.

Sucanat is less processed than white sugar. Processing of sucanat does not remove the molasses, making it the healthiest form of cane sugar crystals

Molasses is an excellent source of iron, calcium, copper, manganese, potassium and magnesium. It also binds with toxins in the colon and eases menopause symptoms.

Nutmeg has been used as a brain tonic, eliminating fatigue and stress, a staple in Chinese medicine, used to treat inflammation and abdominal pain, indigestion, bad breath, and is useful in liver and kidney detox.

Maca Root is a Peruvian root that grows in the Andes atgrows at higher elevations. It is considered to be an adaptogen. Adaptogens are substances which raise the non-specific resistance of an organism, enabling the body to enhance its power of resistance and adapt to external conditions. Scientists and doctors are now finding Maca to be one of the best natural ways to support endocrine health, regulating metabolism, energy levels, growth, sexual development and the sense of well being and attitude.

Spirulina has been found to have positive effects on type 2 diabetes, prevention of heart disease, arthritis, and cancer, as well as support a healthy pH balance in the body. It also inhibits the power of many viruses, such as HIV, flu, mumps, measles, and herpes. It helps reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, controls symptoms of ulcerative colitis, and boosts the immune system.

Vanilla extract, along with being a flavor enhancer, has been used in the treatment of nausea, weight loss, anxiety reduction, healing of wounds, and regulating menstruation.
