Somersaults Snack Review

Posted by in Food, Food Products, Reviews | 0 comments

Though the foundation of my diet is plant based, sometime I like to indulge in a snack or two or simply have to due to a busy schedule. In today’s world, snacks have taken a turn for the worst and you literally have to dissect ingredient labels with a fine tooth comb to understand all that a product is comprised of..

I had the chance to try Somersault Snacks over a year ago from sampling  Vegan Cuts snack box and was super impressed from the get go and wanted to learn more about their company and products.

The name was catchy, the product unique, and the Somersault Snacks Cinnamon Crunch flavor was divine..

Though this company offers only non GMO ingredients on their label, meaning they are not organic, as well as the fact that two flavors include dairy and they ALL include “natural flavors” , leaves me some what in limbo in how I feel about the product as a whole…

Whether a product is 100% perfect or not, I feel as though this platform, is the perfect place to share product information and give insight to what is on the market today..

Somersaults are the result of our quest to create healthy, tasty snacks for people who want more than just empty nutrition. What followed was a philosophy and lifestyle that adds joy and delicious goodness to your everyday life. We invite you to share in the unexpected pleasures that Somersaults offer, with crunch, zing and a little zest for adventure!

Their Story

With our busy, on-the-go lives we were desperate for a healthy snack that we could grab anytime – something that would nourish and tickle our taste buds. Disenchanted by unsatisfying snacks, we set out to create our own to share with other active people, just like us.

What we discovered on our quest was a surprise — the sunflower seed! We learned that seeds are the new nut, offering the perfect blend of protein, fiber and balanced nutrition with an excellent taste.

We loved the nut free nutrition of seeds so much, we nominated the sunflower seed as our own personal nutritional super hero, choosing it to be the #1 ingredient in every Somersault snack we bake.

Each of our Somersaults flavors are made with simple, all-natural ingredients of the highest quality so you can feel good sharing Somersaults with your whole family. So next time you enjoy a Somersault, think of those beautiful fields of sunflowers that stretch for miles across America and the incredible nutrition that these little seeds feed your body.

Playing outside gives nutrition to the soul, just as delicious, healthy food gives nutrition to our bodies. At Somersaults, playtime and snack time go hand-in-hand keeping our family and yours healthy and happy.

Every day we work to deliver snacks that will delight and nourish snackers everywhere while promoting healthy eating and daily activity as a way of life. We believe the best foods are made with only a few pure ingredients. Our commitment to you is to use absolutely nothing artificial in our snacks, staying far away from trans fats, hydrogenated oils and high fructose corn syrup, so you can feel as good sharing Somersaults with your family as we feel about sharing them with you.

Sunflower seeds, the #1 ingredient in Somersaults, are a nutritionally dense food, power packed with antioxidants, protein, vitamin E, minerals and healthy fats.

Whole Foods Market’s ANDI score, or Aggregate Nutrient Density Index, rates sunflower seeds as #1 in the category of nuts and seeds with a score of 78! ANDI is a scale measuring the amount of nutrients a certain food is packing per calorie. That means our sunflower seed packed snacks offers one of the best nutritional bangs for your calorie buck.

Blood Pressure:

A nutritionally dense whole food, sunflower seeds are packed with four times more antioxidants than blueberries, walnuts, and peanuts, boosting the immune system and lowering blood pressure and bad cholesterol.

Cell Production:

Sunflower seeds offer 17% of the recommended daily allowance of folate in a 1 oz. serving. This essential nutrient is necessary for the production and maintenance of new cells and is especially important during pregnancy.

Heart Health:

Approximately 90 percent of the fat in sunflower seeds is polyunsaturated and monounsaturated, the healthiest types of fat for the heart. The fat comes from two ingredients: sunflower seeds (fats) and expeller pressed high oleic sunflower oil (monounsaturated fat). Sunflower seeds are also naturally free of harmful trans-fats which raise “bad” cholesterol (LDL) and lower “good” cholesterol (HDL).

Nerves & Muscles:

Sunflower seeds have as much potassium as almonds, offering about 200mg of potassium per 1 oz. serving, playing an important role in decreasing blood pressure and establishing proper nerve function and muscle control.

Sunflower seeds are the best whole-food source of vitamin E, a nutrient that may slow the effects of aging, boosts the immune system and prevents cardiovascular disease.

Hailed as the perfect pick-me-up snack with just a touch of cocoa sweetness, our Dutch Cocoa pairs perfectly with your afternoon latte. Dutch Cocoa has just as much protein as a serving of almonds but has less fat and fewer calories. You are sure to satisfy your chocolate chip cookie craving and keep on going until dinner time.

Fewer carbs and 82% less sugar than a low fat yogurt.

Enjoy at the movies, on your next bike ride or snack on while studying. Even better, serve at your next dinner party as a nut-free snack your guests are sure to enjoy.

Toasted sunflower seeds and grains baked with chili pepper, a touch of jalapeno and a dash of lime give this nugget a delicious zesty bite. A perfect snack for your next backyard barbeque, beach bonfire or fiesta. Olé!

Twice the protein and less sodium than pretzel sticks.

When we began our quest to make scrumptious, healthy snacks out of seeds, we developed our original flavor, Pacific Sea Salt. The touch of sea salt on these crunchy nuggets is sourced right here in our own backyard, the San Francisco Bay, and highlights the nutty taste of sunflower and sesame seeds. Pacific Sea Salt is sure to twirl your taste buds.

The same fiber but 92% less sugar than an apple.

Cinnamon Crunch bakes warm cinnamon into our whole wheat dough to create a delightful yet healthy treat. A little sprinkle of sweetness makes this perfect crunchy snack a coffee pairing delight! With just 7g of sugar (that’s 42% less than a granola bar!), this treat is a good-for-you twist on Grandma’s home baked cinnamon rolls.

Cinnamon is a great source of fiber, iron, and calcium!
